Re: Unknown copper. Help with ID please.

I can barely see an image of a womens head with a field of stars in pic #2...

Take a piece of thin paper and a lead pencil and do a rubbing...the image will pop out...then match to coppers in Red Book

In the second pic, which I think might be the reverse, looks like a wreath or stars around the edge. I can see a design or shape on the other side, but that shows clearly in the picture. Thanks

Iv'e been meaning to post this for a while, but just got too busy. This was found at an early 1800's foundation. It is pictured with a large cent to show its size. It is thicker and just a little bit bigger. Any help would be greatly apprieciated. Thanks in advance!

All you who mentioned stars or said it was a large cent.. Did you actually read the text in the original post? :tongue3:

Re: Unknown copper. Help with ID please.

It's about same size as the large cent. Measurement and weight may be helpful in ID of coin

Some times rotation of a coin will make the difference in ID when little to go on  Nice dug coins :icon_sunny:

Re: Unknown copper. Help with ID please.

Frenchy, check the edge of the coin and look for lettering or design. On the right side of the first scan there seem to be a line which could possibly be the base (with date below it) of a British seated Brittania , or even a U.S. states coin that used the British reverse device of the godess 'liberty".

Re: Unknown copper. Help with ID please.

The coin is 28mm. I do not have a scale to weigh it. I took a couple pics of the edge of the coin. I hope this helps. Thanks.
