found this is a old cellar hole with other stuff that is dated to 1900 and earlier. the hanging balls move around the pivot point. any idea what it is, i think that it should face down as pictured in the photo so that allows the balls on chains to move freely . The metal bar is about 1/16 in thick and it seems that this close up is one of many of these types of hanging balls. it also has wood screws attached so i know it was attached to something to allow the balls to swing free. sounds perverted , sorry

Hello Hooz, welcome to the forum. I really can't tell from the pics what it is, but from your description, it may be part of a clock. How about some closer pics with a ruler or size object, and what kind of metal it is. Breezie

It may be from a clock, but I don't think it is part of an anniversary clock (400 day) you pictured. I have several and they are a very precision made time piece. The slightest disturbance or not having them exactly level will cause them to stop working.

It sort of looks like it may be part of a light fixture such as a Chandelier. Just a guess.

We could probably ID it, if we could see it. ;D Breezie

I am reasonably sure that your relic is the arm to an old hanging scale.

Maybe part of a threshing flail?

My mother collected antiques and she had a strip of metal with bells all with 3 ringers in each just like that. I don't know what it was made for but it was so sensitive it would ring from the vibration of a passing truck. She mounted it to the door and theres no way to open that door without it ringing no matter how careful.
