I do not think its a royal engineers or marines badge because it has a coat of arms in the middle not the GVR or ER symbol

This might be a great find, but the photo is not good enough to see, but looks early 1800s

'Honi soit qui mal y pense'
The above is the easy bit.
Still looks early 1800s but hard to make out the Crown type or Monogram.

Here i just found a photo similar to it on the net,a royal engineers QVC pouch badge. But the bottom inscription says 'ubique',and thats not the case with mine.Everything else on it looks the same.BBA410%20var%20a.jpgBBA410%20var%20b.jpg

So now your close, if the Crown type is the same then we have narrowed yours to Victorian (& not early 1800s, kind of a shame). Therefore the words at the base will clinck it, what are they?

Wow, quite different from my reading (as often happens in these cases), but I see the first word as either Mentis or Mentes, which is related to intelligence, sound mildness, etc. in Latin. Somewhat made me wonder if it might be from a school (King's School type place)
I do feel that whatever it says is in Latin. (as is the other text, as well as Ubique on the other example.
I see the second word as starting with "PO...?"
As always, I may be wrong.
