Ok top picture is sideways definitely a human figure on there. It is a really nice looking button I like it quite a bit

Its a Japanese theme, popular in the 1880s-1920s

To me it looks like a leprechaun with a shillelagh in one hand and a thistle in the other, dancing a jig in front of a rainbow.

I see what you mean but if it were, a thistle would make no sense, so would need to be something else.

I still think its a Japanese farming scene, with tool & crop. I agree he is dancing home.....
