Unknown brass press?

Very small item just a bit larger than a quarter. Found in the New Jersey 1919 schoolyard. Says 'born, she' backwards. Only one ive found so far, almost scrapped it was quite easy to miss the writing on edge.

Ive seen plenty of ink rolled press plates but nothing like this.

I don't believe it to be brass, but it is a fragment of linotype. Linotype machine.
