United Arab Emirates shipwrecks information

Welcome aboard TreasureNet Emil. I don't know of any specifics for that location, but knowing the history their, I would say that there are many documented and undocumented shipwrecks. That part of the coast has been a major trade route for many thousands of years, and I always enjoy my stays in Dubai, and will be passing through again in about three weeks. I would be interested to know if the engineers building all those islands in Dubai, have found any old shipwrecks in the process of the construction.

There are lots of stories of gold shipments and smuggled gold all over the Emirates most is fabrication but maybe there are a few which are not. The problem is where the information comes from, it is most unreliable.

There is a great story of a Kuwaiti Dhow being loaded with a gold shipment and a second identical Dhow coming along side to trans-ship the cargo, but the Dhows caught fire, both sank just West of Das Island.

Stories abound of fishermen bringing up burned timbers, but I have never seen one, I also surveyed the whole are for ADMA-OPCO back in the eighties and saw nothing, while keeping my eyes open for things other than pipelines.

There is plenty of history up at Ras Al Khaima, some serious pirates lived and operated from there. I would guess that if you can speak and read Arabic then go to the religious libraries as everything is written there somewhere.

There are still plenty of hi-tec smugglers in Dubai but I guess they lose a bit every now and again.

Good Luck

I have also wondered about the building of those islands, they have had to run across some wrecks at least. I would love to MD that area!
