Hey guys, any of you look for unique t-shirts at thrift shops/garage sales?

Here's one I just found that's a good example of what I look for... the 14.99 bid hit right away and the first night I had an offer for 16.99 to take the post down....didnt' take it!

The Kayo Corp Men's Adult XL Skateboarding T Shirt Kool Aid Man Gold Tooth | eBay

I grabbed this shirt off the rack because it was 1) unique, 2) seems to have a couple different markets, one of those being skaters that are always looking for different t-shirts, and 3) The label is not either a generic such as haynes or a massive t-shirt producer, it is a small company that might have hardcore followers and limited supply.

There are no other copies of this shirt on ebay and only a few others from the Krayo Corp, so maybe they didn't make any and are heavily sought after. Either way, if not, this is what I look out for!

Good Find! The Kayo Corp (not Krayo, but it doesn't matter really) is a good skate brand, I always look for that kind of stuff. Brands like RVCA, Vans, Nike 6.0, and others do fairly well. Also, as diggumup said, vintage t-shirts are usually a winner, and can be extremely valuable if they are from a well recognized brand, band, event, place, etc. Often if the shirt is old and the brand is random but widely known the shirt will sell well. Randomness meaning a brand you wouldn't expect to have their logo on a t-shirt. For example, I have done well on a 70's lipton Tea shirt and a 70's Nathan's Hot dogs shirt, as well as a shirt from an 80's broadway play. The best way to identify a true vintage t-shirt is from the tag design. Here's some resources:

To look up popular skate brands:
CCS - Skate, Snow, Streetwear, and More

Hope this helps!

whoops, glad I got it right in my listing! Thanks for the vintage t-shirt info and resources, that's really useful stuff. I used to shop at CCS all the time when I started out skateboarding. Bought my first Alien Workshop board off of them. Still skating today, 17 years later.

I was at a garage sale and bought a TON of NEFF stuff. maybe 50 shirts, 20 hats, 3 backpacks, 5 sunglasses, and some Mugs from a salesman's meeting in 2011 (internal only, not for sale). Paid $80 for the lot. Let my son go shopping first (cheaper than going to any store). I am waiting for August (new school year) to put up the rest.

Very cool, those kind of indirect savings are priceless! I never need to buy anything immediately because whenever I stumble across something at a thrift or garage sale that I know I'll eventually need, I buy it

Don't forget to keep an eye out for Nike SB. It's very limited (for Nike), only available at smaller retailers. Think of 6.0 as Toyota and SB as Lexus.

Wow, good call. That stuff is gonna move come august. Money to be made.

SB is their skateboarding line right?

Both 6.0 and SB are skateboarding, but SB is the high-end boutique stuff. Places like Sports Authority or Dick's will carry 6.0, but only smaller local shops carry SB for the most part. SB stuff is more collected and can bring crazy prices on the secondary market (Diamond Supply "Tiffany" Dunks being a famous example).

nice, I assume this means both shoes and any clothing?

I may just invite the neighborhood kids over to browse and buy ($10 a shirt is a great deal).

That's a great idea, avoid all third party costs...at all cost! plus everytime you see one of them walking down the street wearing one of your shirts you'll remember what a great sale it was
