I think you are right about the pattern. Something about this clasp makes me think it might be the oldest find I have made. It looks so primative with the prongs like that. I gotta think 1830s or older - but I could be wrong.

I found two matching ones a couple of weeks ago around an old home site that dates back well into the mid to late 1800's and they look very similar to the one you have pictured there.
Can't give you a better time line than that, but they are old that's for sure.

Its not a foundary item..

That is an item that was cut and stamped by machine...

When were machine manufactured products introduced into the world market place?

Try last quarter of the 1800's.
