I was trying my hand at relic hunting with my DFX near the site of a ghost town along the Kansas river today when I stumbled upon a large plastic container covered in duct tape with a black lid, placed between three small trees. My first thought was it was a drug/money drop. I finally decided to open it and see what was inside. As I was slowly removing the lid, I was thinking "what if it explodes" and "maybe it's a boobytrap". What I found was a logbook and a bunch of trinkets. It was a geo-cache! LOL! I guess my imagination ran away with me. :laughing7:

Now, assuming I am not the only naive member here - Geocaching is where players try to locate hidden containers, called geocaches, using a smartphone or GPS...

Thanks vpnavy. Geo-cache-ers use their GPS to find these caches using clues and coordinates. There are caches all over the country. We MD-ers have fun finding buried treasure using our metal detectors. Sorta similar.

LOL
another fun hobby as metal detecting, but I prefer the real thing

Geocaching resources are also handy for finding places to detect in areas you aren't familiar with. Whenever I am in a new town I look up all the geocaches within a certain distance that sound interesting.
That is a particularly large cache you found. They are usually hidden under rocks or in tree roots.
