I am lucky enough to live in an almost trash free environment, so although 95% of my targets are good targets, i only get about one target a week!!!!

This is my recent find, from some shallow water off an uninhabited island.

I guess from a ship (nearby wreck?) but I wondered what part / whats its use?

the metal (iron?) surround has a "link" that moves, and it encased a crafted piece of timber - perhaps some sort of pulley system for a rope / sails etc??
The timber is about 5 inches across.

Any advice, and indeed a link / picture of how it would look on a ship would be great!!

Thanks!!! IMGP0346.JPGIMGP0347.JPG
