I found this picture a few years back while working on an old building that had been many things including an antique store.

It is displayed in my little house and when people ask about it I tell them it's my other family. They get the weirdest looks on their faces.

Could you uniform specialist tell me a country and approximate date for this picture?

Thanks

Re: Uniform ID needed

The uniform is WW1 give or take a couple of years but the age of the two young men makes me think it is some sort of military academy or school. Of course they did look young and it could be a family photo prior to shipping out. I lean more towards a school.

Re: Uniform ID needed

Thanks guys!

That's kind of what I was thinking, WW1. Military academy or a type of ROTC program.

When I first found it I was thinking Hitler youth, but the uniforms looked wrong for that.

Do you think it is U.S. or British?

There are no water marks or photographers stamp on the back either.

Re: Uniform ID needed

My first instincts said to me the uniform was British or Canadian (i.e. Commonwealth). Could be wrong though. The 'priest collar' style, is a real throw off. Not worn widely during the war (too uncomfortable/impractical) so it was 'dress issue' uniform, yet extremely plain just the same. That's what leads me back to a military academy of some kind. These boys just hadn't gotten their badges yet.

Based on the parents dress though, I'd go with the 1920's - 30's. It's neat how the boy on the left looks so much like the father and the one on the right, more like the mother. But they both have Dad's ears though!

Re: Uniform ID needed

Then again, I just checked this one from the 80th Division (U.S.) from 1917.

Reminiscent collar and the breast pockets are scalloped, not flat across.

My final answer: "For $1,000,000... U.S. military academy, circa 1925."

Oops, forgot the photo...

Re: Uniform ID needed-- SOLVED!!!

The more I delve into the info y'all have provided I'm thinking that this is an infantry uniform from the 19teens...

Re: Uniform ID needed-- Not Quite SOLVED!!!

From decade to decade dress uniforms or tunics change little. West Point from New York, or 80th Division from Virginia, or something else from somewhere else. There's really nothing to go on from the uniforms except that most likely they're from the U.S.

Mom's dress and Dad's tie & collar reek from the 1920's though. That's about all I can give you Searcher. Good luck!

Not West Point I think. There uniforms look mor like this. Here is Eisenhower in1915
13.

I do though think the pic is likely 20's and the boys in an academy uniform

Re: Uniform ID needed-- Not Quite SOLVED!!!

Nice find texastee.

I've emailed the survivors of the 80th.
They said without any insignia showing there is no way to tell what part of the military they were.

Will update if I ever do find out.
