I found this button on an old plantation in south Louisiana and have no idea what it is. Threaded shank and two fabric hooks.

My Alberts book won't be in for another week. Anyone out there recognize it. Thanks

It looks like a Type 1 World War I screwback collar disc 1910-1926. You found it in Louisiana and maybe its the New Orleans Academy? I have seen this collar disc before and I could be wrong. New Orleans Academy - Waterbury Button nice find

BigCypressHunter, I already had the Dating Metallic Insignia: Collar Discs webpage in my Favorites "relic info resources" folder, but I hadn't previously seen the "US Enlisted Collar Discs" webpage. Thanks very much for that link. :)

The Academy was originally located at the corner of Carondelet and Constantinople.

The earliest reference I found was 1904. The latest was this article from the mid-1980's.

There is a modern business building located where the old school used to be.

The later location, just north of the Metairie Cemetery appears to now be a vacant lot.

the button seems kind of rare because none of the collar button sites have it.

They are rare but not really collectable. It seems the school was realtively small and only had classes of 100 or fewer.

Unless somebody really famous came out of their program, I can't see any reason why anyone other than a former student would care about NOA uniform items. I think it is unlikely we will ever see one again.

That said, I'm glad this forum able to solve the mystery.

You guys are awesome in that respect.

You may want to send a photo to the collar disc sites to at least document it.

Thats the problem with WWI stuff not too collectible. WW2 is better i think and of course the big bucks are Civil War ...Confederate especially. But since your collar disc is very rare, who knows someone may want it.
