Thanks for your post Tom.
That is exactly what I thought when my buddy texted me these pics yesterday afternoon.
How did a coin like this make it's way into Canada... before there even was a Canada. :laughing7:

Oooops, didn’t read that part of the story or my coffee hasn’t jump started my brain yet. Please extend my congrats to Pepper. I went back and re-read the post, there was definitely no brain function involved in my post!!

It is a very cool find Bob.
What bugs me is that he found it at a site we both detected 4 years ago and didn't find anything at. :laughing7:

have you ever read up on Canadian money from the beginning of colonization? VERY interesting stuff! I have a nice collection of ridiculous stuff like playing card money, Breton tokens, Maritimes, HBC tokens ... you name it. Canadian collecting is WAY deeper than American. Right now i am salivating on 1935 bank of Canada currency issues... that stuff is pricey! (do i even WANT to send the youngest to college or do I want an french language VF 100 dollar bill?)

Hi Mac, sorry I missed your post regarding my buddies coin find. :laughing7:
You're right, the sheer amount and variety of coins we used here in Canada prior to our confederation in 1867 is insane. Every time I find a token on a site here in Southern Ontario I'm hoping for something unique. Some of my most interesting finds have come from Eastern Ontario where our earliest settlement took place. As I'm sure you know, most coins are lost within 10 years of being in circulation, so depending on the soil conditions at the site, some of these coins can be in amazing condition!

I'm meeting up with my buddy who found this coin on Thursday and weather depending will be hitting a few early Indian trade and settlement sites in the east.

Best of luck to you,
Dave

Sweet... don't you wish all the research we did was that easy! :laughing7:

Thanks again for your help on this Sir,
Dave
