Probably another king George but with only a single letter you'll never know for sure. I have lots of blank coppers!

By the condition & thickness I would guess it was once a Geo period counterfiet.

Personally, I recently decided if they look as bad as that, I might as well use a little electrolysis. That way at least I'll be able to I.D. it. I've only started doing it recently, and if I had a camera ( old one broke down recently - gotta get a new one ), I'd take some pics and show you the results. Let's face it - you wont be selling it, you might as well clean it and learn a little more about the area your working.

I would have agreed if it were cruddy/caked, but you could zap this as much as you like & it will bring up nothing, because nothing is left :-\

I'll pick up a new camera soon and show you what I've got - I was surprised with my results and originally thought the same as you...

If you cleaned a coin that now has detail, and didn't before, it's because there was corrosion to be cleaned. The above coin has nothing to clean and the only step that you could take it any further would be to strip the surface and expose the base metal... and you ain't gonna find no Georgie looking back at you from there. ;D

Sooo... like Iron Patch says you've got nothing to lose - run it through some electrolysis and see if anything comes up.

(I know, I know you're all thinking " but there's nothing there " - well then he's got nothing to lose, and who knows maybe I'm right?)
