Re: crossed flint lock riffle plate need info

dirt digger, as I mentioned in the other thread, it doesn't look like a flintlock, but may be a cap and ball which would place it later if it's contemporary. Don't forget to show the back for traces of attachement marks.

Re: crossed flintlock riffle plate need info pics added. sorry.

www.milbadges.com/corps/usa/infantry
is one of many sites which state the insignia is two vintage 1795 springfield musket's which were .69 cal flintlock
the insignia was used in 1875 but change per weapon group untill 1922 when it became once again two crossed 1795 springfeild .69 cal flintlock muskets .The answer lies in the fact that i cant find any examples of this belt plate the army handed out patches of this not a plate that i have heard of or seen. :help:

I looked and couldn't find anything like it. It may not be a buckle but might be a cross belt plate. It's sort of made like the early clip corners but as far as I know they all had any detail either engraved or applied and not stamped. My guess is Span-Am /Indian war period but I can't say for sure. If no one ID's it before then take it to one of the shows in Fredricksburg this coming spring and show it to Mike O'Donnel or Steve Sylvia. If they don't know what it is I'm sure they will know someone who does.
