Hunted one of our local beaches doing some night hunting as its difficult to get around during the day, anyhow while having no luck mostly trash with a few clad coins I got a hit. I thought it was a regular penny and was kinda taken back when I saw the back of the coin, turning it over seeing the Indian head I had to remind myself where I was. Its my first Indian head and I'm happy about it but I'm more surprised about where I found it.

Very nice Indian Head! :hello2: Good looking and it happens to be my dad's birth year! I've been detecting CA beaches off & on about three years without finding a coin that old, though have had better luck at parks & fields. HAVE FUN! Andi

Yes believe me, this was the very last thing I expected to find. I must hit this beach 2 times a week and almost always find jewelry or change. I have to believe someone must have gotten it from the store as change, then dropped it, at least that's what my wife and I have come up with. If it was there any longer than a few days I would imagine it would be in worse condition. Any coins there for a significant amount of time are unreadable.

In this hobby, expect the unexpected. My wife found one last year sitting on the chair in the concourse at an airport !! Of course I get the line - " hey Ron look what I found, & I don't even need a metal detector ".
