Undug military what is it

I came across several of these in a lot of military items i obtained. There were items from Vietnam, up through the late 1980s in the lot. Judging by other items found in the lot, my guess would be something of importance. The discs look like a small record but i didnt want to ruin them trying to play on the record player if tha t isnt what they are. Anyone have a clue as to what they are, and how they are supposed to be listened to or watched ?

No. these disks are recorded from the inside-out. The speed changes on the recorder as the needle moves towards the outside of the disk.

If you played it on a regular turntable it would be backwards and off-pitch - likely conjuring Satan himself or at least a few of his minions. Think "White Album"...

i wonder if you could reverse the wiring on a turntable,and if it would be at speed good enough that you could hear.please let us know what you find. brad

I appreciate all the informative answers ! Even the backwards satanic thing i do remember playing a few backwards in the early 70s. Even used 1 for a very short time as a frisbee but it was like the jackson five or hall and oates or something so no big loss not like breaking physical graffitti or something important. I remember the whole backwards message thing too, remember playing Revolution 9 by The Beatles backwards (even creeper backwards than forwards). The beginning of Fire on High by ELO is another fun backwards message, and all those so-called satanic messages in Led Zeppelin songs lol.
