Underwater Metal Detecting

Am thinking about getting into MD'ing here and am looking at Underwater Metal Detectors since I spend the majority of my free time diving here on the north coast of Egypt. Have a couple of promising sites that I've found odds and ends at on the seabed. I'm sure that there's lots more to be found under the seabed. Was wondering if anyone could provide some advice/performance reviews/preferences on UW Metal Detector models. I am leaning toward the Garrett SeaHunter II but don't have enough experience on the pro's and con's of the various detectors out there. Most of my diving is in the 50-100 foot depth range in low-to-mediocre visibility. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would recommend using the minelab EXcalibur.Mainly because of the better discrimination of the machine, you will find the Sea hunter is a good machine but if there is a lot of small pieces of iron present you will have trouble using it trying to seperate non iron targets. The Excalibur has a biult in iron mask system in the discriminate mode which will allow you to seperate the more preferable non iron targets, plus you still have the option of using the machine in the all metal mode which will pick up all metals including iron objects if wanted . SEEYA NEIlO ;D

Thanks Neilo,
Already ahead of you on this one. Order the Mini Excalibur last night. However, now I have the problem that I found out this morning that MD'ing is illegal in Egypt without a permit from the government (which require archealogical letters of recommendation from certifying bodies abroad). So....I'll have a nice looking piece of equipment sitting in my living room that I can't use. But there are ways around that here ;)

Thanks for the info tho'
