Unable To Balance

Hello,
I am new to the forum,however I have been a relic hunter for a few years.
I bought a used Spectrum XLT and for some time it worked great. After it was stored a while it failed to work properly. When I am trying to balance it, the digitial disaplay
reads,"raise to wrist level" when I put it back on the ground, I get the message,"unable to balance, installing preset levels" then I get the little display that reads, "Overide".
Can some one help me with this problem or suggest what I may have to do to get this problem resolved?

The only time I get that message is if I have it over metal. I would try to reset the computer on it by Turning the machine on and wait for the main menu to come up and while it is still on remove the battery pack, Leave it out for 1 to 2 minutes and re-install the battery pack and try again. Another possibility is a small piece of metal in the coil cover so try to remove your coil cover and clean the cover and the coil and try again. Hope it helps. Good Luck

One other suggestion is to remove the plug that goes from the coil to the control box and see if there is any corrosion on the pins.
