Found this in a little park thats really not that old (70's). I think it is a club hunt token/coin...Do you guys in clubs paint the coins like this to exchange for prizes?

That's got to be the coolest wheat I have ever seen found :D

ive been hunting a park in my area... older park with natural landscape.. used to be the adobe house of the first settler in my county.. now a state historic landmark with adjacent public park.. i have found 15 of theese painted pennies.. all memorials.. but painted.. different colors.. i think they were used as fair or public gathering tokens... i cant see a hobbyist or coin collector painting a wheat....

Not to sure about painted pennys, the club hunt i went to last year painted silver quarters. So i dont see why they wouldnt paint a wheet penny if they paint 1964 quarters.

I have heard the have painted them in the past, however The two competition hunts I have been to usually planted pieces of copper or aluminum with corresponding numbers for prizes and sometimes they are painted as well. Hope this helps, HH Art...

They've been known to. The ones I go to use painted wheats for tokens redeemable for a gold coin (Mex. dos peso). They change the colors every year and keep track of the colors so any previous year's coins are null and void. Other times, they stamp #'s on dimes for other prizes.
