Been sick as a dog (thanks to Louisiana having all 4 seasons in one week). I’ve been noticing a random pile of pennies on the floor in one of my kids’ rooms that I’ve been telling her to pick up (you know how kids are). I’m assuming she had been digging for quarters out of our change bucket. Sent to kids off to school, and since I’m feeling well enough to bend down without my head exploding, I just picked up the change to put back in the bucket. Umm...these aren’t US coins. 1933 Canadian penny and a Euro 2 cent. Most..random..thing...ever. The things you find in a kid’s room :icon_scratch:

Cool finds! Just for fun, check out how the Euro 2 cent coin reads on your detector. It's composed of copper plated steel and if I remember correctly, it reads much lower than a zinc penny. Found a couple of them on a beach in FL and almost didn't dig them.

Yes, the Euro 2 cent is copper-plated steel (5.6% copper on 94.4% steel). Every issuing country was allowed to choose its own obverse design, and yours is French.

Those are nice things to find in a kid's room .. there are some things you don't want to find! :flag_red:

Did not know any of that! I did notice the Euro is like doubled? Like two pieces stuck together. I'm going to have to run it under the detector when I get off work and check it out!

Yea...kid rooms are scary. I gave up and quit cleaning them. They're on their own with that. I don't understand how they can live in a mess like that lol

The 2 cent coin has a shallow groove running round the entire edge circumference. It may look like it's 'doubled' but it's a deliberate design feature which helps distinguish it (for the visually impaired) from the smaller 1 cent and larger 5 cent coins, which both have a smooth edge. The other reason is that it's the same diameter as a US penny and there's an international protocol that recommends against a country using coin dimensions/specifications which are identical to that already in use by another country.

That looks like what you'd find in a coinstar tray. Maybe your daughter has been checking out the coinstars?

LOL! I think our kids can relate! I will be ripping carpet out of her room due to makeup, slime, paint, and who knows what else all over it. I’ve already ripped carpet out of my other daughter’s room and she currently just has concrete lol She’s enjoying drawing all over it lol And hey, kid was warned to pick it up! Finders keepers LOL
