Ulysses S. Grant - Large 2.5" medallion - What is it ?
Hello All, been a while since getting on !! My friend just found this large 2.5" diameter Ulysses Grant medallion in northern PA. It looks extremely old (and in bad shape). There is little left of the outside plating. Just enough to tell its Grant and some other wording. The date "1822- ****" is under his bust, assumably his dates of living. The word "Memoriam" is to the left. The back is in worse shape and hard to see, but it is Grant on his horse with some remaining lettering at bottom. The interior of this piece (what's left) is lead ............ and yes, there is that terrible spade mark from digging (he is new to this). Can anyone date or tell me what this large "coin" / medallion is from ?
