That's a nice looking button that you purchased with the border wreath design. Most if not all Patriotic bar buttons from the Revolutionary War period are in the 22mm to 23mm size similar in size to the Patriotic rattlesnake button sizes .. There is no loop attachment shank on the back of this 33mm large bar button I dug. The smaller bar button pictured was the only one in my collection that I bought from a digger in Virginia 22mm so I was extremely happy to finally dig this large sized variety in early 2023.
These patriotic bar buttons do have a priceless discovery value for the Rev War period relic hunters that metal detect on 18th century sites and a liquidity value for the Patriotic- Revolutionary War period collector who does not hunt- metal detect. I did learn over 35 years of metal detecting that being out in the wilderness is an unreal experience especially when you can see and feel the past that birthed our Republic while standing over a long gone colonial home site. Then I transitioned to the non-dug mint examples of what we all dig by foraging estate sales and then auction- hunter- digger. This is where you see everything you are digging in fantastic condition and more than you ever imagined that is out there in the antique world. Morph while your young but keep digging also for that is special to receive a relic buried in the ground for 200 plus years that was always meant for you to be discovered by you before you ever were born.. Do these buttons have any value actually?
Never seen any posted that I recall.
Congratulations on your outstanding find! Have you ever seen this type before?
