My ATPro rings it up at 39-40-41, it is very light weight, reminds me of graphite, or maybe coal. But does not readily leave a mark when pushed against paper.
Found at a early 1800's home across the road from an old rail road depot. Some horse tack and model T parts near by. Near an old water bottling plant.
I have no clue.

I believe you are correct, it must have been a big battery, but it fits the bill. Thank you, another mystery solved.
