U.S. stamped silver spoon-need ID help

I hope everyone has been well. I just dug this spoon up out of a dirt pile the city made for me. Other than the "U.S." stamped on the front, on the back it says "D Reed & Barton + overlay"
I can find plenty of info on the company, but they are still in existence and I can't really find this particular item anywhere. Anyone have any idea on the date/history? Military issue?

Looks to be a plated military spoon to me. Date? Don't know. Pre-stainless steel perhaps?
