I also found this a couple feet away. The field I was digging in was a house built and owned in 1850 by COL. George Williams he was a rich guy and had a camp he built during the war a couple miles from the place that was found. Could they go together off a metal strong box maybe? Dig until your arm falls off

I don't know for sure if they go together or even if the one is a lock cover, but it sure looks good to me.

It is a keyhole cover and key hole plate off of a wrought iron lever lock. There seems to be some debate as to whether these early locks were made by the US Lock Company (which I have yet to trace down the origins of) or made by the E.T. Fraim Lock Company which was in business from 1881 to 1955.
