Found many years ago (don't even ask when
) in our barn in Central Ohio.
Obviously from US Calvary but not necessarily CW era.
Stitched edge folded leather approximately 12 inches long X 1-1/2 inches wide with 2~1 inch brass rosettes with wedge-shaped crimped prongs that are flattened on the backside of the leather...
Looks like the rosettes may have been gold plated at one time which may imply use by a ranking officer as opposed to trooper use.
I have a fully rigged McClellan saddle and head stall and this is not a part of either...
Orientation of rosette signifies used in the upright position as shown...
