Found an earing looking thingy looks to big to be an earing? Found a 1921 Canadian penny, a 1940 quarter and a 1945 quarter ,a military button I think! makers mark Scovill MFG CO Waterbury I have no idea what it would be doing in Ann Arbor I also found a Junior NRA award!!! This Military button was one of those very faint signals where I move a few inches of dirt with my foot to see if the signal gets stronger it did and there she was. The 1940 quarter was one of those times I stick my coil way under a pine tree kinda hoping there isn't a signal bam there it was I was expecting a new quarter 10 inches down under a root I was happy to see ,.it!!! I was detecting at the Arboretum here in A2 {Ann Arbor} I was in the older section near the back on a just cleared hill. I look across the main area and see two U of M police walking in my direction. I'm thinking some do gooder complained and I didn't want to deal with it It was 8 30 am. I know this place I would say better than almost anybody!!! So I went up over and around and squirted out an old trail back to my car. There was no one else around so I figured they were looking to talk to me!!First I have called the AA PD they found no problem or ordinance against Metal Detecting I went to the Metro parks Headquarters and got the free Metal Detecting permit. I have also had many conversations with the U of M police about metal detecting one guy who wanted to start doing it himself!!!!

iAnyway so I'm sitting in my car waiting for them to come out 30 minutes later they came out 4 of them in two U of M police SUVs I'm thinking to myself I didn't do anything wrong and my taxes help pay for the parks. I decided to go talk to them because I detect a lot in there and don't want to have to always stress about this. I ask them so do you know if Metal Detecting is a problem here I was kinda surprised when he said I have no problem with it and we talked and I showed him all the pics on my phone of my coin finds and the two class rings I returned . they were really cool. They were just walking through as a pert of their making an appearance I guess. I'm pretty vien huh!!!LOL I freaked for no reason!!!! That's my story and I'm stuck with it!!!!!!! I'm tired of carrying around this list and an empty bucket!! 20170506_175807.jpg20170506_175848_1494349490700.jpg20170506_175933.jpg20170506_175947.jpg20170506_175927.jpg 20170501_205719.jpg .20170508_130342_1494263023472.jpg20170508_130353_1494263033639_1494263412399.jpg

looks like there should be no problems for you now, great finds and congrats on the silver

I like that Jr. NRA award. Nice hunt!

Nice finds. Surprised you haven't found more military items. Not sure how old the VA hospital is down there, but they probably took patients out for day trips back in the day. Might want to research some possible locations for that. You never know.

Nice to see that place is still producing keepers Tommy. You are just a big suspicious looking character, glad you talked to the officers and put that stress to rest.

Nice finds Tommy. I like that NRA Badge. Your button seems to be a 1902 Great Seal Button that started usage in 1902 and is still used today. Most of us that find them, usually find them from the WW1 and WW2 era's. You can do further research, and identify the time era by the makers mark, and the style that it is. There were slight variations in the buttons, so look at it close.

Tommy, once again the Arb was very good to you, Congrats! How could anyone ever ask you to leave? You pick up most of the trash on the planet and never leave any indication of digging a hole! Keep it up and that's was a great silver collection for one day!

Thanks Steve I like doing the hills where the woods have been cleared and the old days college kids went down them. Lots of coin spills plus you can dig a crater I'm very careful though on the grassy areas!!!!!How about the old house area at silver lake this weekend??

Man you had a good day! Congrats on the sweet finds
