Looks like a copper piece used on a rail road or for a telephone co (in a transformer box of some sort).

hmmm. maybe part of some type of securing/steadying/guidance tool for a huge old table saw? sorry. i dont know much, but i like to guess. find a really old man and ask him. they know everything.
