Not a rein guide.. it is the point on the surcingle, right in the centre, where the overhead check,
[sometimes called a check rein] attaches
You can see it on this image in the centre of the surcingle.. This one has a sharp end, but yours serves the same function.It goes from the head to the water hook [that is the proper name]
