As much Civil War activity that occurred on Tybee Island, I'd be concentrating more on those sites. Forts, Camps and Batteries of Georgia gives exact locations from Fort Pulaski to various Union gun emplacements that were built to lay seige to the Confederate fortress. Book is available from Kellyco Metal Detectors.

Just got back from another Tybee island trip. This time I used my 10 inch coil rather than my 4 inch coil. The larger coil was much heavier!!! It made a difference after detecting for a couple of hours. Also made it harder to pinpoint coins. On the other hand, I found many many more coins than last time. I found all kinds of clad. I was out at 6 am this morning and there was already someone else out there detecting. He had a Tesoro. He said it worked great in the wet sand. Saw another different guy with a minelab detector. His machine was literally falling apart and he was complaining about it.
