I have had my detector for exactly two weeks today. This weekend I dug a handful of coins: 32 silver quarters, 19 clad quarters, 12 silver dimes, 23 clad dimes and a whole lot of old pennies. An old tire from a wagon, several old metal shovel heads, a rusted out barbeque (yeah, I dug 23 inches to find that baby) lots of nails and other iron things (I tried a few different preset modes) My back yard is a joy. It has little soil and lots of sand, easy digging – but, whatever the detector says add a few inches. The front lawn is a hard as a rock and depth meter is usually right on. So here is what I have learned.. in no particular order
Take an aspirin at night so your arm doesn’t hurt so much the next morning!
Those shovels are heavy!
Make sure you don’t wear a hoodie and keep metal things in the pocket so you don’t have to keep moving backwards and digging every time your pointer goes off.
Pinpointing with the whites v3i is more easily accomplished by pushing the toggle switch forward.
Don’t bother going out if you don’t bring some kind of pin pointer with you.
My best find to date was searching old laundry when I first got my pin pointer (while waiting for the detector).
Start practicing in your back yard so you neighbors don’t see the giant holes (and then they will never let you dig on their lawns)
Be grateful there are sites like these!!!! So you can learn things about your detector and that everything you found you found in your own back yard.
This is a very addictive sport!
Take an aspirin before you go to bed too. Befriend a masseuse.
