First of all they are predicting an accumulation of snow tomorrow, and second I found a seated half dime in texas! I didn't know what it was at first as I had never seen one and it was pretty crusty. But after some cleaning its an 1853 O with arrows, and I broke the seated barrier just days after finding my first gold ring. Next up a C.S. Belt plate and then a gold coin!

Nice find. I am certain most of us are surprised by the things we find. I know i am. For example, I know Camp Lewis was formed in 1917 after the advent of the 30-06 Springfield as a service arm and the M1911 pistol, yet i find old rolling block brass.

Keep swinging...

Nice seated... I have yet to find one in Texas... but I'm in central Texas this area dates back to the 1880... but as you go south towards you the towns get older and older... some I seen dates back to the 1850's so yeah further south seated coins should be more common than up where I am.

The military has always had a habit of reviving old training grounds from generations past. Just because they didnt have an actual fort there before 1917, doesnt mean that they werent training thier troops there during and after the civil war. One thing that rings true for all land, if it was desireable for certain use in the old days, it still remains desireable for the same activity generations later, even if the history of that land was lost and forgotten about. I would love to find some old rolling block cartridges! keep swinging!

Awesome find I found only 2 with the same yr 1835 a few yrs apart here in IA. Just never know what lies below till you pluck it out of the ground. HH
