Found these two pieces this summer and looking for help with ID. the first piece is 2 3/4" round. It comes up between 90 -92 on my AT pro. I am new to the AT pro and wondering what material this was made from. It is threaded on back. The second comes up in the 80's and the whole going through is square on one side and round on the other. Thanks for your help

Your first item is an axle cap (hubcap) from a 30s or earlier automobile. Can you distinguish any writhing on top?

Old Digger, I did clean this item better and did not find any writing on the piece. What I did find is that the top of the piece from the where you would put a wrench to tighten cover up and the round top is a copper color. thanks

There were a few automakers that had the 8 sided lugs. This 1920s Buick cap is somewhat similar, but I still look and see if I can figure yours out.

It kind of looks like if there was an emblem on there, that it was hammered out or filed off?

I think the scratches could be from me cleaning it. It is a relatively smooth surface. The inside of the cap is also smooth, not sure if there would have been an imprint if a name was pressed onto the outside. Does the threads help date the cap? I know that most grease caps I worked on where just pressed on.

It's odd that it is smooth, because all axle covers (hubcaps) back then that had their company logo pressed into the metal. It wasn't till in the mid to later 30s that hubcaps were popped/pressed on. Also, before the popped on caps they were all screw on.

Do you think it was pre-automobile and possibly on a horse carriage. I was just looking and on ebay and found someone selling horse carriage grease caps. They are not identical to mine with 8 lugs but similar in shape. 4 2" Thread Carriage Coach Buggy Horse Drawn Wagon Wheel Caps not All The Same | eBay I hope you can get into link. The area I found the cap in has yielded artifacts from the late 1700's till about 1911.
