Here is something similar from my Charles Harris CW book. Not sure on the material or the attachment of yours, but certainly same pattern but may not be same usage.DSC00001.JPG

I'm not sure that book would have IDed it that way with the loop still attached. What was the loops function on a martingale? (Maybe a drop decor, but not something I have seen before)

I'm not yet convinced by this ID.

Agree with Cru, the small loop does not seem right as I stated as well. Maybe same design but different usage. I am sure Charles Harris knows what he found though and I don't question him on that.

The picture in the book is not great & the reverse attachments would be useful because all 3 are missing off this example & they would be a good pointer.

While I am here I might as well comment. I agree 100% second item is suspender buckle. First looks like 1800s bling something.

What I find odd is the signs of some old soldered attachments on the reverse while the small loop has no explanation. According to this link there were many variations and some of those processes for making these were surely available long after the CW. Probably made on some sort of press that was still usable long after the war ended. A nice design like this could have easily been reproduced with an added loop for hanging...but it doesnt explain the visible signs on the reverse that look like old attachments.
