I found these two in a field along side some Civil War bullets and stuff. Does anyone know what they might be. Any help would be great. The back of the top one it looks like it had a place where two attachments may have been.

I'm fairly sure the oval pc. is a brooch. The larger pc. looks much thicker, and I'm not too good on horse and buggy parts, but based on where you found it may be a rosette ? (albeit a fancy one)
Both pcs. look fairly early. a little hard to tell date without the attaching parts of either. But judging from the discolored areas on the oval, the brazed areas indicate a pin setup and may have been a simple wire pin and hook.. So, it could be late 1700's to early 1800's ! Very nice finds..

The thing that gets me, is that almost all the jewelry I have found from early 1700's to early 1900's are mostly brass and then gilt. Gold or silver. I can spot flecks of both on almost all the early jewelry I have found. I have found only a few very small solid gold pcs. usually added to a larger pc. And solid silver pcs. are a little more findable. I have a brooch with perfect rubies in it, so you'd think they would have gone all the way with stones like that and used gold, but nope ! It too has a brass base with a gilt covering, and it's about early 1800's.

I wonder how many people have found solid gold wedding rings made before the late 1800"s ?? So far all of mine have been brass/gilt.
