A few weeks ago I posted on the General Discussion asking what y'all thought about the 15" coil because I was looking into getting one. My 600 only had the 11" and wanted something that would cover a little more ground. A fellow Tnet member messaged me and said he had an extra one if I was interested. He gave me a great deal and actually threw in a few old coins and an old button on the deal. Good folks on this site. I won't mention his forum name in case he wants to stay anonymous. I really appreciated him hooking me up.
Well my first two trips with it were a bust. A bunch of clad but I did find an old ring. It was about 12" down and almost gave up on it. When I air tested new coil against the 11" coil I gained about an inch of depth with a penny and dime and 2" with a quarter.
Today I went and got a metal detecting permit from a nearby county so I can search their parks and not worry about getting run off. Found a park in the middle of nowhere thinking that it should not have been detected much. The first signal I get I move some leaves on top and see a hole with a smushed part of a can laying by it. Someone has been there detecting before me and has left holes uncovered and trash laying on the ground. So now I need to clean up the trash and fill in the holes because if someone from the county shows up they're going to think I did it and take away my permit the first day I got it. Anyway whoever it was missed some targets. Found several clad coins. A silver ring. This ring looks almost like the one I posted last year. Someone on here said it was a Native American made ring that they used to sell on the sides of roads back in the 50s-60s? No markings but tested positive for .925. Also dug up a 1947 silver dime and '41,'45,'49 wheat pennies. The barrette I thought was silver but tested negative. Maybe pewter? The button is aluminum. Couldn't tell if it was modern? Doesnt seem like much but a good day for me. Got a lot more parks to search now. Sorry for the long post. HH
