Today I got up early and drove 100 miles to a small town I had been wanting to try, I was going mainly to hunt the 1897 courthouse and park across the road,
but ended up doing sidewalk strips when the first two locations didn`t pan out.:dontknow:

I decided to try a street just three blocks from the courthouse, the sidewalks looked old and the strips were about 15 feet wide, which is pretty good around here,
most are only about 5 feet or so.

First target was a 1948 nickel, so I had hopes of finding some wheats at least, a few feet later sure enough a wheat pops out. A couple feet later I got what I
thought was another wheat signal down deep, once I got down about 8" I got the target out and it was a shiny, a nice 43 Merc!

Not twenty feet later I got another wheat signal and got the plug out and found out my hole location was off, after widening it out I got another coin to surface,
and it the rim was shiny so I`m thinking I have another Merc! Wrong, after carefully flaking some dirt off I saw ONE DIME staring at me!!!

Wow!! my first Barber dime!!!, :headbang: that really made my day, it ended up being my last silver, but I did get 8 wheats for the day, which is my best wheat day for the year.

I only did about a quarter of the sidewalks in town, so hopefully there will be more shiny to come! 20190601_092008.jpg20190602_002529.jpg20190602_002542.jpg20190602_002458.jpg20190602_002515.jpg20190602_002414.jpg

Nice job, great saves!!

yep, an awesome feeling for sure. congrats

Well done!!

Just curios if you ever have problems detecting side walks or do you get permission? Do you detect between the road and side walk ? Around here they are maintained by the home owner and I wouldn't feel comfortable doing it with out permission...

Toecutter I’m just like you that’s why if it do it it’s a 6am lol

True story I was in the historical district of my town which is basically now lawyers offices in women’s boutiques. It’s basically a semen jungle but in front of the lawyers office there was a sidewalk strip of old ground no grass just hard mud you know when you see your mug. So one day I said I’m a get up early and go check that spot. Well it was on a hot summer day after lunch I was changing locations and had all my gear still on and I was passing that spot that was in the middle of the block and of course there’s no parking spots available and I said hell with it. And I walked kneepads pouch metal to tactor shovel looking like the predator walking down the street. The strip was only about 6 feet so I was doing it quite quickly because I was getting stares like crazy. I swung about seven times and hit a deep 91. OK here we have Mardi Gras doubloons, but they’re never 9 inches down. So it’s probably a rusty washer l, but I dug it anyway the ground was very hard sweat rolling all down my face as I watch the feet walking past me very slowly. I was going to give up, but I went 8’ so what the hell I took my last stab and out popped out, in slow motion like in a movies, a black disk hit on top of the ground SOILD BLACK no idea what it was. I immediately put it in my bag and got the hell out of there and went home. The rest is history. IMG_1998.jpgIMG_0538.jpg

That happened my 3 month of detecting I probably wouldn’t do it now. Lol

Nobody said a word to me other than one curious homeowner, we had a nice chat. Yeah, I detect between the road and the sidewalk, the homeowners side is off limits.

Thanks guys, I might have a couple more spots to hit now....

Congrats on the finds! Very nice day. Here in Michigan the strips belong to the property owner. But because they are also considered the right of way no signage is allowed, i.e. For sale, construction company etc. And the homeowner is responsible for the maintenance of them. I normally seek permission for them. Just for public relations considerations.
