I found these 2 about 2 months apart. in the same general area. I've had them around for almost 1 year. I never found out exactly what they are. the entire inside and rim of each of them is coated with a black substance. maybe tar.. maybe some type of paint or ink. they're not made from local clay. they seem to be terracotta. both have a small thumb pull along the rim apparently for pouring. I know these are probably not pre colonial but I don't know where else to post them. any ideas

Like where were they found? Urban or rural? Water or dry land?

What industries are near?

Any type of info may be a clue as to what they are...

shallow water in the indian river. in an area where the ocean beach is only about 200 yards to the east. very close to a 1715 fleet shipreck. nothing close by other than a condominium on the beach about half mile away.

also find native american artifacts there

Nice find on those bowls. Thanks for the view!

thank you so much for your response. that's the first credible explanation I've had.

thank you catherine 1

I've seen very similar bowls in my hunting around Tampa Bay and friends have found them one or two at a time.... I hope not but they look like Santeria or some other religious "device". I've even seen them online at supply companies.

well... it is what it is. I appreciate the info thank you. I'm not really hoping for them to be 1 thing or another just the not knowing was bothering me. santaria huh.. I will check that out. can you remember the name of a supply store?
