dug this this eve at an 1820 Stone House I have been working on. I get to detect after hours. I have been over this spot and the whole way high lawns a lot, the soil had been rock hard from the drought up here in the Finger Lakes of Out State N.Y.--BUT, we have have a few good local down pours that has softened the soil and gives better signal. The signal was 'scratchy' but did register high 80's on my AT PRO that said 10" down. Sure enough, 10-12", through rock and roots, this BEAUTY POPPED OUT !!! So, I realize it a Civil War era, but any more info would be great. The back say EXTRA, but I cant make out the rest.-
here is the back pic hope it helps ID Screen Shot 2020-09-01 at 9.52.37 AM.png

That is actually a Marine's button. Please give us the size and a picture of the back. It probably dates from around 1860 into the post civil war period.

As fyrffytr1 suggested, a pic of the back will help more accurately I.D. and date your button.

Nice find,

Unfortunately, your attachment isn't opening.
Click on the 'Go Advanced' tab in the lower right corner and try uploading your pic directly to the Tnet site.
Dave

PS. Ok, I now see it's loaded up top.

We got a little but hardly enough, we need that 2 times a day for a few weeks at this point. Luckily most of the garden was well watered by irrigation that we put in during the spring. so had some good peaches and corn and all sorts of tomatoes and peppers.

I couldn't open your last attachment on the size and the one of the back is out of focus enough that my old eyes can't make out any of the backmark. Is it cuff or coat size?

I'm just learning still. This year I didn't thin the fruit enough. when they say thin 80 percent of the fruit, I guess they really mean it. They all came out pretty small, but man were they delicious. a bunch got canned up so we are all set for the winter. Luckily got a little bit of rain last night, maybe a few more of those and the ground will be worth detecting.

yeah, Tpmetal !!! in '13 I did not thin my tree, I picked over 1001 peaches!!! put up 100 pints-- open a jars just yesterday morn!!!--my tree came up from the compost pile, that was the old chicken yard. Once I realised they would, I put 100 pits in an falow raised bed, some came up, and now I got a mini orchard!!--and more are still comin up---as that say, Treasure is Where you Find IT!!--==photos of GOLD!!
