Hello,
I was just about to post this when I coincidentally saw DownNDirty's post but mine are different (than Hot Diggity's also) and are definitely not glove buttons.
They are bigger at 17mm across and all have the same back mark "Superior Quality."

Bought from an estate sale that included several mid-19th century buttons, here in Winnipeg.
The two from the right in the back row are worn smooth and the rest have detail.
Surely they will be identified as civilian but I just wanted to make sure and maybe someone will recognize them.
Thanks in advance!

They may be Salvation Army uniform coat buttons. Sub 8-)

I found your S button(s) at the Waterbury Button Company's online catalog, in the "Career Uniforms" category.
S - Flat - Letters - Waterbury Button
The one in the photo there is brass-finish, but if you click on "Finishes" you'll see many other finishes are available, including grey-metal finishes like Nickel.
If I had to guess, I'd say your Career Uniform letter S button is for an S-named hotel's employee uniforms. Many hotels used a single letter on the staff uniform buttons. But it could be a cruise line, airline, etc.

Thanks a lot CannonballGuy for taking the time (and anyone else who tried) to look up my buttons.
Now that they are confirmed to be "career" uniform buttons, I can look up various businesses to see what can be found.
Steamship would be cool or even a famous hotel.
Cheers,
Dave.
