Two "Phoenix" Ball Buttons!!
Today, I just got around to cleaning the Ball Buttons I found this week. It turns out they are both "Phoenix" buttons which were manufactured for King Christophe of Haiti between 1810 and 1820!! Apparently, sometime after Christophe committed suicide in 1820, many of the buttons made their way to the West Coast. Here's a link to a brief article about them:http://www.thetreasuredepot.com/issue3/article4.htm The numbers refer to regiment groups, No. 1 being the King's regiment and No. 2 being the Queen's. The ball type like I found are considered pretty rare!

Rick
