Two Ornate items, possibly 1700s.

Found these two small items in a field. They were near where a couple of British Farthings were found (dating in the 1700s). Mine is noticeable in the picture as well. The back of the upper item in the picture has two studs (look like iron possibly, rusty) The lower has a lipped edge on the back and is obviously broken from something. Nice details on both. Looking to see if anyone might have an idea of what they are.

I have found the top item before in mid 19 th Cent. sites,pretty big topic of discussion in the past on here but I believe it was concluded they were leather strap "braces/keepers"

Yes that's right Mate...strap guides :icon_thumright: although I know a cetain person will no doubt disagree.

Definately strap guides to late 18th early 19th C horse harness gear. They have been found recently complete on Tnet, some older books had them as drawer pulls. Thats why places like Tnet put right the experts.

I concur with our esteemed fellow diggers, on the first item. Dug many of those from Colonial homesites years ago. :icon_thumright:

The second item is most likely a broken fragment of the outer frame on an 18th Century show buckle.
