Found two old buttons in a clump of metal. Cleaned the clump and found them. How old are they and how much are they worth? IMG_2253[1].webp

The far right button looks like a typical Flat button from the 18th century.. The first one I can not make out due to photo. Do they have back-marks (any writing on the back of them) please remember back-marks are like finger prints when it comes too buttons. If they have back-marks on them they are more then likely 19th century buttons.

The value on a typical 18th century flat button is anywhere from $2-$5 but I guess you could get more on E-bay.

Need to see better photos of the button on the left. Also need well-focused closeup photos showing the back of both buttons. The one on the right looks like an early-1800s 1-piece brass "flatbutton," manufactured for use on civilian clothing.

Also, knowing what state you dug them at would be helpful.

Edit: HutSiteDigger and I were typing our replies at the same time.

I'm not to sure, because there is a shipwreck near to where I found it, and it sunk in 1785.

What are you not sure about? Its a Livery Button circa 1830 with an arm holding something like a thunderbolt. I have over 150 types & I have found them on Roman Site, so are they Roman?

No, I do not think it is Roman. The shipwreck is Irish, called the Faithful Steward.

The beaded/roped bottom on the button, is I suspect the bottom of the front of the button, that would make a arm slanted. More pictures are needed.
