Minelab XT70, Fisher 1280, Garrett Ace 250 and MH5
Primary Interest:
All Treasure Hunting
Received my new detectors, an Ace 250 and a Fisher 1280 Aquanaut for water detecting. Also bought a few new accessories, beach scoop, 2 wet suits, floating sifter, shovel and an extra Vibraprobe 560. Here’s the toys mixed in with some older gear, Minelab XT70 on the left.

Took the Ace 250 to a field I have not detected and dug everything for about 45 minutes. I was very impressed with its performance and ease of use. I even dug a few deep targets. Found mostly iron pieces, aluminum and nails as I was running in all metal mode but, I did find a zinc WWII coin that sounded good. I will probably go ahead and buy the 9”X12” coil for it and a rain cover. Was going to play with it and sell it here in Germany as I would have no problem getting my money back for it but I really like it and will keep it.

The weather forecast was cloudy and rainy today, I thought that was just beautiful as I was headed to a beach to try out the Fisher 1280. Only saw six people with kids on the beach in 3 hours. Trying to get into the full wet suit would have been a comical sight to see, it fits like a full body condom, LOL! Had a fun time in the water, what a workout and slow motion detecting. I did not have high hopes for this beach however, I did manage a few nice finds. Here’s the beach.

Here’s the finds with the trash. A small handful of coins, only 3 Euro coins for a total of 30 cents, some junk and the better finds were 2 silver 925 rings, a silver Sterling horse head pendant and a junk ring. Also came up with an easier way to pinpoint something you can not see in deeper water, I would find the target, then place my left toes over the area then bring in the scoop, lay it along my foot, move my foot and move the scoop over to where my foot was then dig. That worked well except on the deeper targets. Had to abandoned a few targets as the rocky bottom in the deeper areas was just to hard and the wet suit being made of neoprene rubber tends to give a buoyant effect, couldn’t get much force on the scoop to dig. I had an awesome water hunt due to good equipment and great advice on the forums. HH, Mike

Nice finds and with a look at all of your detecting equipment, I would say your ready for battle!

What do you collect finds or detectors?

Looks like you're ready to take on anything. Now all you need is an Army mine detector. Way to go!

Hello Mike!
Congrats on your purchases! You got yourself two neat machines.

I "once upon a time" shallow water detected using the 1280X; it's been around a long time and with good reason.

Mike,
Great post, and fantastic pictures. You are total set on equipment I see. :o
Keep us posted on the new Ace 250.
Congrats,
MM

Thanks for the comments! I have two more detectors, a White’s XLT and an old Garrett Master Hunter 5, had to sell a detector, a Fisher CZ7A to get the 1280, wife thing, LOL. The field with the Ace 250 on it has some history. In the middle of the grass fields was an old crossing dating at least 600 years ago, you can see it leading to the large trees on the left with a barn in the background, to the right of the old road in the grass field was a small lake, behind the lake in the trees was a castle with a newer house built over the ruins of the castle, part of the newer house has some of the original castle foundations built into the basement. I will try to get at least two water hunts in this week on other beaches. HH, Mike

Good to have you back and Welcome to the world of water hunting! First Class all the way. You'll be a PRO in no time. Glad to see you're getting the pin pointing thingy down, we each have our own way of doing it. HH

Nice hunt Mike, I have a little ace 250 I got new and have barely used . I think I may start giving it a go. A friend of mine bought one when I was at Ramstein and on our first hunt together he found some old phennings and a German WW2 razor. Good little machines. He also dug a fairy deep iron spur.

Another great hunt.
I just got back from Poland and that place is MD heaven (I only was able to do 30 minutes)
I'm about to buy an ACE 250 for my kids.

Nice finds Mike and I wonder how many water detect around you, some of those ponds where you detect could be a gold mine!!

Awesome arsenal and great finds Mike!

Wow, I cannot wait to go near a lake or beach too find some lonely coin or something out there!! Congrats on your Findings.

Now all you need is a boat with a pull behind magnometer....

Keep diggin'...

Hey Mike. You think you have enough toys? :D Too bad no gold rings. At least you got a couple silver ones. :) One of these days I'll get into water detecting....

I had to get real creative just to buy my XLT! I can't imagine the response if I said, "Honey, would you mind if I got another detect...(at this point a blunt solid object would be landing on my head)" But you do get a nice return from the machines!
