I got back to the old high school today and spent 5 hours with the CZ21. I gridded a section of the field for the first 4 hours and did a little wander around for the last hour. The first part of the the hunt was really penny heavy (50 in all) I found 65 coins with a face value of $2.85, lot of tabs, some can slaw, a marching band music holder, pieces of an old spoon handle, a marching band medal missing its ribbon, a brass instrument thumb screw (You can really tell the marching band practiced on this field.), a wire clamp, a starter gun blank cartridge, most of a silver earring, a mercury dime, a 2018 pendant and 7 wheaties. (You can really tell the marching band practiced on this field.)
The spoon pieces are paper thin and were both in the same hole. It looks like examples I have seen of spoons from the early 1800’s. If anyone can confirm the dating of the spoon I would appreciate it. The mercury dime is a 1937 that shows a lot of wear. The marching band medal is kind of neat and in really good shape.
The earring is missing the part that goes in the ear and matches the complete one I found 10 days ago on this field. (New one on the left, old one on the right)
So 4 hunts in a row with silver, with a total of 9. I’m going to the scout camp tomorrow and the chances of continuing the streak are slim. I find lots of clad, but very few silver coins (the camp is only 40 years old) and almost no jewelry. But who knows, I might get lucky.
Thanks for looking and may your coil lead you to good things.
