Found a 3 block stretch of removed sidewalk in a local town today. First signal was a corroded IHP that I never could get a date on. A half hour later I got an 1898 IHP that was not green. It was in the sand base of the walk and perfectly normal brown. It was in very good shape and I was able to update the 1898 in my secondary IHP folder. My primary was better. Those two bring my 2023 total IHPs to 12. I also got a sterling ring.

Yesterday I got a gorgeous 1909 IHP and didn't look for the S until I got home, not wanting to jinx it. But it wasn't there. The find of the day (and week) was an 1852 Braided Hair large cent. First one I've found since 1995! It's good to know the Walkers (got one last week) and Largies are still out there. Everyone else has not hunted everything out in the 20 years I sat on the bench, but they sure have tried hard!

Sounds like your in a great area to hunt! Congrats on the nice recoveries your making! Keep it up!

Congrats for the great digs and you're right, there's still plenty out there. Would like to see pics of the Indians and LC.

Congrats! I’m still searching for my first IHP. I thought I had one last year and it ended up being a 1882 Civil War Token which is just as fun in my books.

It takes time to do pics, but I know some of you guys love them (I do too), so my love of this hobby has told me to take the time. Here they are.

How's that for a brown IHP? I was shocked it was not green. I saw the back first when it came up and it was perfect. Didn't even have much dirt to rub off. The front cleaned up nice too. This was an upgrade for my secondary IHP folder.

Here's the ring. That was the only silver I got yesterday.

I got this 1909 IHP about 30 minutes or so before the large cent. It is a typical greenie. It has a full liberty but there is some wear on it. The middle diamond in the ribbon is gone. The 1909s in both my primary and secondary IHP folders is better than this one, so I did not get an upgrade here.

Here is the large cent. As luck would have it, the 1852 slot in my LC folder was empty. It completed the top two rows on the last page. I have 1828 (Decatur dig), 1833 (old house), 1843 (Decatur dig), 1845 (old house), 1848 (Decatur dig), 1849 (old house), 1850 (old house), 1851 (Decatur dig), 1852 (old house), 1853 (Decatur dig) and 1854 (Decatur dig). There are other dates I have found but I don't remember what they are. I sold some of them before I started keeping everything.

If you have not read the Decatur dig (27 Days Digging Decatur), you don't know what you are missing. If you search for it on Google it will come right up.

The date was clear and easy to read until I scraped the dirt off. Now I know why Kurt of the Hoover Boys says to leave some dirt on to enhance visibility. This coin was 10+ inches deep and hit solid on the Deus II. There were nails in the hole with it. I got the Tombac (I think) button I found today (separate post for Today's finds) a few feet from where the largie was. It was 7 or 8 inches deep. I thought I had another IHP for sure when that came out.

Enjoy the pics, guys!

You also know that they made wheat cents in 1909 also right ? I remember the first time I got an Indian and then a 1909 wheat... and was like WHAT ??

1909-S Indian. that's sweet. something you don't see posted every day
Wow. That does look for all the world like an S in the photo, doesn't it? I scrutinized it when I got home and did not see one. After you posted this, and looking at the photo, I had to take a closer look. Usually the camera picks up things we can't see, but in this case the camera is lying. Under a jeweller's glass, I can't see an S. By looking carefully, I can see the brown dots that look like they are in the curve of an S, but it is an illusion. To be sure, I looked up some photos of the S mint IHP. This illusive S in my photo touches the rim at the bottom and the real S does not. The real S is much smaller than the illusion and it is also more centered between the tails of the ribbon. I wish it was an S, but alas, it is just an illusion.
