Hi everyone,
I went to my super awesome place . I only spent 90 minutes cuz a shady figure appeared, coming running toward me and I thought better safe than sorry. First part of the hunt nothing. Last 15 minutes I got into my spot and found these 2 dimes about 10 minutes apart and probably about 10 yards apart. First was the 1902-o, couldn't field ID it. The second was a terrible signal, with a rusted nail and part of a rusted can in the hole. I was thinking it'd be awesome and had dreams of a 4 Barber day, but then I see this guy running toward where I was and he didn't look right . Plus, being in the midst of nowhere, I though it just best to calmly leave. More goods are waiting. Really awesome to get silvers #31 and #32, plus my last 6 silvers have been oldies
The 1906-D had sticky, brown, thick stuff on it. Maybe tree pitch or tar or something I tried letting it soak in Mineral oil, rubbing alcohol, and distilled mineral spirits -- not simultaneously. Plus holding it under the water jets. Stuff just wouldn't come off. And I mean you could see nothing. Finally I experimented, don't know how good for coin, but probably no worse than the pitch that was on it. I used scotch tape and would pull it off. Each time took more crud off. Did it about 30 times. Could have done more, but was satisfied with outcome. Then mineral spirits, then water and soap, then rubbing alcohol to make sure all tape adhesive was off. Seemed to work well.
Happy hunting all my friends!
