The town where I do my banking is a two bank town. One uses Loomis and the other Brinks. I've found out in my area the Brinks boxes are waaaaay better than the Loomis boxes. I pick up the Brinks boxes and dump them at the Loomis bank ;D It seems to me it would be better and you wouldn't be looking at your dumped coins. But with time my dumps would make it back if someone dumped those coins into a bank that uses Brinks. Do you guys make sure you dump at a bank with a different carrier? Or it just doesn't matter?

I'm fortunate enough to be in an area during the winter that I have about 25 banks to pick up rolls from. I'm also in an RV park across the street from a casino and they don't mind me dumping all my cast offs there. They roll all of their own coins there and I have yet to pick up any of those rolls from any of the banks. So for everyone out there that's near a casino, consider using them for your dump!

If you can dump in a different distribution area that you are getting your coins from, obviously that would be the best scenario. Some folks live in an area where it is just not feasible due to the next distribution area being so far away.

Coins are always coming into the system so if you can't dump in a different distribution area you will still find some goodies. Good luck.

Happy Holidays

Thanks for the tip lejeuene! How do I find out what my distribution area is and where my boundaries are?

Our casino does not use real coins any more they use tokes or paper tickets so not sure they would let me dump. Plus I would hate to try to drag $5,000 in halves all the way from the parking garage.

Newbie here. During college breaks, I used to work as a teller at a bank and would buy and sort bags of coins. They would come in loose and we would have to roll them with a machine out back (my job). I really enjoyed going through the bags and finding good stuff.

I am new to this site and have decided to get back into it. I have just ordered $500 of halves from one of my banks. My question is: I hear some people talk of getting boxes of coins. Just how many coins are in a box? Oh, another newbie question: Can you get bags/rolls/boxes of coins directly from Loomis or Brinks?

See my other post 2 or 3 up on this list. I used that to track down a local Brinks type of company. I called and after a few transfers got connected to the right person. I bought two bags of IKE $$$. I think every company has different rules. I drove out to their compound and bought them for face + $5 fee per bag (I think) They then let me double check the count in their counting room.

Try and get your bank to order the bags, if they are big enough you may not have to pay the fees and you can go to your bank to get them.

Most of the banks tell you that they can not order for you they just don't know how to do it. They have to order directly from the reserve bank. That is how I got my bag now what do I do with all these IKE's?

I asked the bank if there was any extra charge, and they said no. The coins should be here on Friday. Went to Bank of America this afternoon and asked if they had any halves. They looked at each other with a funny look and said no. I like the customer service at the other bank who said no problem getting me the coins--World Savings. I'll probably return them to BOA piecemeal.

BofA is funny about returning coins. I get 2-3 boxes of halves from my local BofA but never return any coin to them. They will take bags but have fees and will not credit my account immediatly. They send the bag to the main vault to be counted then take days to verify the count and credit it to my account.

I have two other banks (no fees) that would rather get coins in bags (that they furnish) and my account is instantly credited.

My bank gives me plastic bags to put $1000 of halves in. They also give me cash when I bring them in, no depositing them in my account first. ;D
