Two 1905 IH's, 1914 wheat and some CW lead from last couple hunts this past week.

Some unfortunate news came last Saturday for my family. My wife's grandfather passed away and we had to make a sudden trip to Indiana from West Virginia to attend his funeral. It all went well and it was a beautiful funeral, there were tears and laughter and just celebrated a life of a great man.

On a lighter note, before we left Wednesday I went out Monday and Tuesday after work. Monday I landed two .54 caliber gardners, a flat button and a 1914 wheat. No D mint mark though! Bummer. lol Tuesday my cousin was with me and I landed a flat button, some other odds and ends, a fired 3 ringer and two 1905 IH's. One is in better shape than the other, but both in better shape than the last one I found from this property(which I couldn't read anything on it). Oddly enough, my cousin has worked that area before and I too have gone over this area countless times. But now that we have started to work this field at a snails pace, we are pulling out A LOT more. It's a good thing to live by. Just slow down and the good things will come! Happy hunting and thanks for looking!

Way to go on finding those. We can hit that spot hard this week since the mowings has slowed down.

I noticed how burned up everything was here when we got back. It was nice and green in Indiana!

Thanks guys. Maybe I'll pull some more CW relics and some old silver out today when I go back.

Matt, Gardners always validate CSA prescience and are among my favorite bullets to dig. You are continuing your roll and regularly adding to your collection of historic artifacts. WTG, Quindy.

Thanks, Quindy. My cousin and I are very curious as to what could have happened at this property. Now apparently the church that is right next to the field was a hospital during the Civil War. We have found a lot of confederate bullets, but the buttons we have found have all been Union. But on top of that, there have been flat buttons galore. I have found a few fired bullets here, but not a whole lot. At the time would they have nursed confederate and union soldiers at a hospital? A small possible skirmish taken place? I guess we are just puzzled as to why there are confederate bullets but no CSA buttons, but there are union buttons. Could the flat buttons have been from the confederate soldiers?

If they were there early in the war Matt, that could be true. Here in the middle Tennessee 1862 and early 1863 CSA camps, we find mostly Union eagle buttons either captured from uniforms or brought from home when the Confederates served in the Mexican War. I have dug only a Block "I", KY Staff Officer, and AVC button here since 1995. The KY and AVC are pre-war as well. Are you finding flower buttons? They would have worn them on clothing brought from home too. Many times, surgeons worked on soldiers from both sides from what I understand. After all, they were all Americans. HH, Quindy.

Great saves. Look forward to reading your future finds.

As far as eagle buttons, I found 3 Eagle "i" buttons and a general service eagle button. My cousin found 2 New York state buttons, but the rest have been flat buttons. Some with designs, mostly just plain. The 3 "i" buttons were in one hole. Thanks for the info, Quindy.
